  1. SPACE TRADER

  4. Space Trader is a strategy game for PDA computers
  5. running Palm OS version 2.0 or higher.
  6.  
  7. Information on playing the game can be found
  8. in the game itself. There is extensive help on
  9. every screen, which can be accessed through the
  10. Help menu, using the option Help Current Screen
  11. (shortcut H). Also, the Help menu contains some
  12. separate entries that explain the overall design
  13. of the game.

  15. The document file SpaceTrader.html contains an
  16. extensive manual on many of the game's particulars,
  17. even those that aren't covered in the Help menu.
  18. It's not really necessary to read this file, but
  19. it can help you to become a successful space
  20. trader.

  22. Space Trader is rather large and complex, and not
  23. suitable for short, quick games. It is suitable
  24. to be played for several minutes, to be picked
  25. up at a later time, though. Those who want a
  26. game like this but which can be finished in, say,
  27. 15 to 30 minutes, should pick up Matt Lee's 
  28. DopeWars or Dave Webb's SolarWars.

  68. KNOWN BUGS

  71. One beta tester reported that occasionally, 
  72. when starting the game, he gets an error 
  73. message stating "Chunk over-locked", after 
  74. which he needs to do a soft reset. After the 
  75. reset, the game runs fine. I have been unable 
  76. to replicate this error. Besides this beta
  77. tester, only one user reported a problem
  78. which is equivalent to this: he got another
  79. message when starting the game the very first
  80. time, but in the same area of the program
  81. code, and after a soft reset, the game ran
  82. fine for him. At the moment, I can't do
  83. anything about it, unless I get more 
  84. information. I suspect this problem is due to 
  85. some kind of system hack. If I'm right, I 
  86. would like to find out which hack causes the 
  87. problem so I might do something about it. If 
  88. anyone has more detailed information for me, 
  89. I'd like to hear about it.

  91. When tapping between the "Y" and the "W"
  92. shortcut button (on some systems this is: in
  93. the upper right hand corner of the "W" button),
  94. it can happen that the "Tips" page for the
  95. current screen is shown. After the screen is
  96. closed, a small information "i" is shown on top
  97. of the "W" button. I don't know what causes
  98. this, but it is certainly not something I have
  99. programmed. I am still working to solve this,
  100. but I released the latest version already
  101. because it solves a potential crash bug. This
  102. "Tips" page bug is just something unexpected,
  103. not a potential crash.
